I'd be grateful to discuss further as a class the difference between "instruction" and "cognitive scaffolding", as well as how this might explain the finding in table 4.8 that cognitive scaffolding didn't occur as frequently.
My favorite phases of the writing process are brainstorming (listing and clustering) and revising at the sentence-level. My least favorite phase is drafting because for a long time (and until very recently!) I believed that more drafts meant meant that I was a poorer writer. I let my self-critical voice prevent me from accepting drafting (not just one or two but many iterations) as not only a legitimate but also necessary phase of the writing process. Seeing the screenshot of all those drafts on page 44 inspired me to be patient with this phase.
